Renaming of Grand Bank Health Centre Honours Contributions of Local Physician
The Grand Bank Health Centre has been officially renamed the Dr. S. Beckley Health Centre to honour the career and community contributions of Dr. Sunmolu Beckley. The announcement was made during a recognition reception held for Dr. Beckley this past Friday night.
"It's a pleasure to join with my colleague the MHA for Grand Bank, MP Foote, residents of the community and health care professionals to recognize the achievements and volunteer contributions of Dr. Beckley. It is fitting that the facility will now bear his namesake, as he was one of the original advocates for its construction."

The Dr. S. Beckley Health Centre provides primary care clinics, beds for short stays, laboratory and x-ray services.
"Dr. Beckley has served the medical needs of Grand Bank and the surrounding communities for almost three decades. Renaming the Grand Bank Medical Centre in his honour is a fitting tribute to a man who has given so much to the community."

The facility also offers public health, home and community care nursing. A variety of other health services are provided by visiting clinicians as well.
"Dr. Beckley's many years of service to the community of Grand Bank are a testament to his dedication to rural Newfoundland and Labrador. He has made a tremendous contribution to the quality of life in the region and to modernizing the delivery of medical care on the Burin Peninsula. The renaming of the health centre is an honour well deserved, a permanent token of our gratitude for the service and fellowship of this remarkable individual."

The facility was built in 2009 and replaced the former Grand Bank Community Health Centre, which was built in 1941.
