Strengthening Fiscal Accountability
Minister Acknowledges Work of Auditor General
Today the Honourable Cathy Bennett, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, acknowledged the work of the Auditor General in the release of his 2016 Annual Report. The report in includes seven items related to Provincial Government departments and government entities.
“The Auditor General’s report is indicative of what the province saw under the previous administration -
a lack of oversight. The Auditor General painted a very clear picture in his report, which included audits
which covered periods ending in 2015. Government needs greater oversight and leadership to ensure
programs and services are being delivered in an accountable manner. I thank the Auditor General for
his important work and we have assured him that our government takes his recommendations seriously,
and work will continue in all departments to address them.”
- The Honourable Cathy Bennett, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board
The Provincial Government continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving how programs and services are administered and delivered, as well as departments needing to work smarter and more efficiently. “The Way Forward: A Vision for Sustainability and Growth in Newfoundland and Labrador,” guides Provincial Government actions to achieve greater efficiency, strengthen the province’s economic foundation, enhance services, and improve outcomes to promote a healthy and prosperous province.
