Helping Industry Pursue Export Opportunities
Minister and Trade Delegation Promote Provincial Seafood Products in China
The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agrifoods is joining a trade delegation of federal and provincial representatives at the 2016 China Fisheries and Seafood Expo in Qingdao, China. Eleven seafood producers and organizations from the province will also be attending the expo, which is taking place from November 2-4. The expo is one of the largest seafood trade shows in the world.
"Marketing opportunities are vital for our seafood industry as we look for ways to grow and expand
our markets globally. We are committed to supporting our province's producers as they build
relationships in lucrative markets and this international trade show event presents a significant
opportunity to do so. More than $181 million - or 20 per cent - of our seafood exports went to
China last year, making that country the second largest consumer of Newfoundland and Labrador's
seafood products."

Minister Crocker will also participate in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Ministerial Trade Mission events in Qingdao and Beijing. The purpose of these events is to discuss market access and trade development issues for Canadian seafood and agriculture products with federal and provincial colleagues and government officials in China. Trade missions and expos help producers succeed in the global marketplace.

The Minister will be joined by officials from the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agrifoods. Together they will assist producers as they showcase their products at the trade show's Canadian Pavilion.

quality, healthy, sustainable seafood for a growing global population. The China Fisheries and Seafood
Expo in Qingdao is one of the largest annual seafood shows. Our participation enables our producers and
processors to showcase our industry's premium products to key buyers, brokers and distributors,
ultimately increasing exports to markets throughout Asia."
