Building on Community, Dedication and Innovation
From This Rock Culinary Tour Promotes Local Industries
From west to east, and including many communities in between, the From This Rock Culinary Tour continues to offer a true taste of Newfoundland and Labrador's freshly harvested ingredients. The tour is supported by the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agrifoods and will visit 11 communities before the grand finale in St. John's on November 3.
"The tour connects chefs and restaurants to the local agriculture and seafood industries, providing a
firsthand look at what the industries have to offer. It also increases community awareness and helps
diners experience some of the true flavours of Newfoundland and Labrador. I congratulate the organizers,
farmers and processors who dedicate their time to making this event possible."
- The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agrifoods
Organized by the Restaurant Association of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Chef's Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, the tour consists of a team of chefs who travel across the province to create five-course meals at various locations. Now in its fifth year, it has become a partnership between farmers, fish processors, food producers, chefs and restaurants.
"People in Newfoundland and Labrador have supported this event for five years. Our farmers, fishers and
producers offer up delicious, local food; the chefs create amazing cuisine. Working together, we are further
developing a movement that creates local food security and can offer our brand of culinary tourism to the
world."
- Nancy Brace, Executive Director, Restaurant Association of Newfoundland and Labrador
In 2015, approximately 50 farms and fish processors contributed the fresh ingredients required to prepare 6,260 plates for more 1,000 people. A tour schedule can be found in the backgrounder below.
