Supporting Innovation in the Seafood Industry

Seafood Innovation and Transition Awards over $1.8 Million
Over $1.8 million approved through the Seafood Innovation and Transition program will help transition Newfoundland and Labrador towards a groundfish-based seafood industry. The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agrifoods, announced the projects today at the Aquaculture Canada and Cold Harvest conference in St. John's.

These projects will play an important role in the successful transition to a groundfish-based industry, and we look forward to additional opportunities to fund innovative projects."

Budget 2016 allocated $2 million per year for two years for the Seafood Innovation and Transition Program, which is designed to help the seafood industry prepare for new opportunities as groundfish resources rebound.
The program funds projects that focus on technologies and innovations in harvesting, processing, aquaculture and marketing and will strategically place Newfoundland and Labrador in a position to avail of opportunities in the international marketplace.
