The following is being distributed at the request of His Honour, the Honourable Frank F. Fagan, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador:

Recipients Named for Order of Newfoundland and Labrador

In recognition of their significant contributions which benefit the province, nine people are to be invested into the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador at a ceremony at Government House on December 14, 2016.

“I congratulate the nine recipients who will receive Newfoundland and Labrador’s highest honour during a ceremony later this fall. These individuals represent the very best that the province has to offer and their commitments to community and their fellow Newfoundlanders and Labradorians serve as examples to be emulated by other residents.”

The object of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador is to recognize individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour benefiting in an outstanding manner the Province and its residents. This year’s recipients are:

  • Noel Browne
  • Thomas J. Foran
  • William D. Mahoney, OMM, CD
  • Melba Rabinowitz
  • Philip Riteman, ONS
  • Cheryl Stagg
  • Kellie Walsh
  • Honourable Clyde K. Wells, QC
  • Vincent Withers, CM

I look forward to the ceremony later this fall when everyone in the province will have the opportunity to thank them for their efforts.”

Since the first appointments in 2004, 82 recipients have been named to the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador. The 10th investiture ceremony will be held in December.
