Government Reduces Senior Executive Positions

Today the Provincial Government continued its senior executive reorganization across departments with the elimination of 15 positions. These changes further demonstrate a commitment to streamline government operations starting with a smaller cabinet, fewer deputy ministers and now fewer assistant deputy ministers.

This action follows the departmental restructuring which occurred on August 17, 2016, resulting in a leaner government structure with more efficient planning, better management framework and sound governance.

In addition to the 19 per cent reduction in deputy minister positions announced in August, today we are announcing a reduction of approximately 20 per cent in senior executives at the assistant deputy minister level. These changes will result in a more defined focus on the delivery of programs and services to the people of the province.

The cost associated with the elimination of these positions is $1.25 million for pay in lieu of notice. This represents an estimated annualized salary savings of $2.03 million.

The changes announced today were identified through a close review of the structure of government departments. We recognize and appreciate the dedication of all public service employees and appreciate their commitment to the work of government.
