Pasadena Place Recreation Facility Celebrates Grand Opening
On Saturday, October 1, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs, along with Scott Reid, MHA for St. George's - Humber, and other provincial, federal and municipal representatives celebrated the grand opening of the Pasadena Place recreation facility. This new facility offers benefits to residents, and will serve as a place for people to exercise, get healthy, and spend time with their family and friends.
"The Pasadena Place recreation facility is a reflection of the great quality of life in the Town of Pasadena.
The new facility will provide gathering places for families and social groups, as well as for individuals of
all ages and economic status, regardless of their ability to pay for access. It is truly a great addition
to the community, and will benefit residents for years to come."
- The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador
The new facility was constructed through a partnership between the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Town of Pasadena. The Provincial Government invested almost $7.6 million toward the total project cost of close to $9.5 million.
"Recreation facilities such as Pasadena Place promote personal health and wellness, as well as safe
communities. They encourage community leadership and social inclusion, while also adding to economic
development and environmental sustainability. This new facility is the result of a strong partnership,
as well as the commitment and dedication of the local council. I congratulate everyone involved on its
completion and grand opening."
- The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs
Pasadena Place is a state-of-the-art facility, boasting an international-sized gymnasium, rock climbing wall, walking track, three multi-purpose rooms, large community kitchen, fitness centre, and exterior stage. It is designed to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver rating for energy usage and conservation.
"Pasadena is a growing community. Like any growing community, its residents need new and reliable facilities
to satisfy their needs. This new recreation facility adds greatly to the town, and while it has many different
purposes, is what's needed for future generation of young and old alike."
- Scott Reid, MHA for St. George's - Humber
The benefits of healthy, active lifestyles are well documented, and the Town of Pasadena is leading the way in providing its residents with ways to get fit and stay active. Mayor Otto Goulding was pleased to see this project come to reality.
"I am very proud as Mayor of Pasadena to spearhead the grand opening of our town's new recreation facility.
Pasadena Place is something we can all be proud of. It stands as a symbol of the hard work and dedication
put forth by many partners to make it a reality. I offer sincere appreciation to everyone that had a hand
in helping us reach this milestone today. The residents of Pasadena are very proud of what we've all
accomplished on their behalf. I look forward to residents and visitors enjoying what this facility has to
offer for many years to come."
- Otto Goulding, Mayor of the Town of Pasadena
Pasadena Place is located on Tenth Street in the town, and is open on a daily basis. More information about recreation programs offered at the facility by the Town of Pasadena can be found at www.pasadena.ca .
