Premier Ball Announces Senior Communications Team

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, announced today senior appointments to the Premier's Office.

I have great confidence in their ability to provide support as we continue with the work of government."

The following individuals have been appointed:

  • Andrew Caddell is appointed as Director of Communications, effective August 22, 2016.
  • Michelle Cannizzaro is appointed as Media Relations Manager, effective immediately.
  • Jillian Hood is appointed as Content Manager, effective immediately.

Biographies

Andrew Caddell

Andrew Caddell is returning to the province after working as a Senior Policy Advisor for the Department of Global Affairs Canada, the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, and Health Canada. Prior to that he worked internationally in New Delhi, Dhaka, Skopje and Geneva. He worked for the Official Opposition in Newfoundland and Labrador from 1981-82. Mr. Caddell has spent over 25 years providing strategic communications support to national and international agencies including Public Works and Government Services Canada, the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, the World Health Organization and UNICEF. His career as a journalist spanned 11 years in St. John's, Corner Brook, Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. Mr. Caddell spent six years as the Director of the Canadian International Council, and has served as a board member of the Atlantic Charter Foundation of Newfoundland. Mr. Caddell holds a Master of Journalism degree and a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) from Carleton University. He is the author of "Like Moths to a Flame: the influence of the news media on decision-making in the UN system (2003)" and "The Goal: Stories of our National Passion (2015)."

Michelle Cannizzaro
Michelle Cannizzaro has spent the last eight years providing strategic communications advice to both private sector and non-profit clients. Her portfolio includes public relations and communications support to a variety of sectors from tourism and culture to commerce, health care, and aboriginal affairs. Ms. Cannizzaro was the lead communications manager for the Canadian Cancer Society's Daffodil Place Capital Campaign, acted as campaign manager for the Home from the Sea Capital Campaign. Ms. Cannizzaro holds a Bachelor of Public Relations, with a concentration in marketing from Mount Saint Vincent University.

Jillian Hood
Jillian Hood brings a wealth of experience in digital marketing and social media management to her role as Content Manager. In 2015 she was instrumental as part of the team that implemented a social media campaign for Team Trudeau in the lead up to the federal election. Ms. Hood has held several volunteer roles as a content manager for the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association NL, and is a board director for the Newfoundland and Labrador Historic Trust. Ms. Hood holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and Sociology from Memorial University.
