Premier Ball Provides Update from Cabinet Meeting
Following conclusion of this week's Cabinet meeting at The Rooms in St. John's, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, marked the ambitious course of action taken by his government in their first eight months.

We will continue on the path outlined in our election platform, ministerial mandate letters and Speech from the Throne by being responsive to the needs of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians."

Faced with a challenging fiscal situation government has made significant progress in recent months towards addressing many of the commitments made to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. To date the following accomplishments have been realized as outlined in the Speech from the Throne, election campaign and ministerial mandate letters:
- Completion of an independent review of the cost, schedule and associated risks for the Muskrat Falls Project;
- Protection of the environment through regulation of greenhouse gas emissions by large industrial facilities;
- Protection of youth against the harms of flavoured tobacco products, electronic cigarettes and hookah smoking;
- Introduction of new regulations governing the practice of midwifery;
- Reversal of the previous administration's plan to recoup pension overpayments from seniors;
- Advocacy for a new, fair arrangement for Northern Shrimp quota;
- Support for an expanded groundfish fishery;
- Creation of the Independent Appointments Commission to actively recruit for a number of senior government positions;
- Review of MHA pensions and compensation packages; and
- Elimination of compensation to Parliamentary Secretaries and the Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier.

As a Cabinet, we are pleased with progress made to date and look forward to providing further updates on our commitments in the fall."

This week's meetings fostered productive discussions around key issues facing the Newfoundland and Labrador. The Provincial Government will continue to act upon commitments which support economic growth and development, and build and enhance regions and communities.
