Public Advisory: Preparations Underway for Alternate Service Delivery During Possible Postal Service Disruption

The Provincial Government is closely monitoring the current labour situation at Canada Post and the potential effect any loss of mail service may have on residents. Planning has been ongoing to prepare in the event there is a postal service disruption.

Payments normally issued via direct deposit will not be affected.

If you receive benefit payments via cheque from the Provincial Government please contact the applicable government department or agency to find out how you can continue to receive these payments without disruption. Examples of benefit payments include such programs as income support (Department of Advanced Education and Skills), Home Heat Rebate (Department of Finance) and Medical Transportation Assistance (Department of Health and Community Services).

For all other cheque payments from the Provincial Government, vendors (individuals and businesses) are strongly encouraged to enroll for direct deposit to avoid any potential delay in receipt of payment. To sign up for direct deposit, please visit the Department of Finance webpage or call toll-free 1-888-729-6199. If you are unable to sign up for direct deposit at this time and would like to receive your payment via cheque, please call 1-888-729-6199 to make arrangements on how you can receive your payment.

Provincial Government clients should recognize that some delays may be experienced, but staff and regional offices will work to the best of their ability to lessen the effect a possible service disruption may cause.
