Public Advisory: Royal Visit Event Schedule

From June 28 to July 1, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, will be visiting Newfoundland and Labrador in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme at Beaumont Hamel. The Official Royal Visit itinerary includes various commemorative events that are open to the public, as listed below:

Wednesday, June 29

Memorial University Grenfell Campus, Corner Brook
11:40 a.m.
The Princess Royal will visit Memorial University Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook. While there, The Princess Royal will unveil a plaque to officially open the Danger Tree and accompanying solider exhibit, a memorial to those lost on July 1, during the Battle of the Somme at Beaumont-Hamel.

1:30 p.m.
The Princess Royal will inspect the 2nd Battalion. The Princess Royal will then present the new colours to the 2nd Battalion officers and address guests.

The Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, His Honour, the Honourable Frank Fagan and Her Honour, the Honourable Patricia Fagan and the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Ms. Sharon Ball, will join Her Royal Highness at both events.

Friday, July 1

National War Memorial Commemorative Ceremony
11:00 a.m.
The Princess Royal will attend a ceremony of remembrance at the National War Memorial to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme at Beaumont-Hamel. The Princess Royal will lay a wreath in honour of those lost in battle. The Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, His Honour, the Honourable Frank Fagan and Her Honour, the Honourable Patricia Fagan, and the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Ms. Sharon Ball, will join the Princess Royal.

The Rooms
1:45 p.m.
The Princess Royal will inspect the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Troops and will be present for the official opening of the Fortis Amphitheatre and Courtyard. The Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, His Honour, the Honourable Frank Fagan and Her Honour, the Honourable Patricia Fagan and the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Ms. Sharon Ball, will join The Princess Royal.

In addition to the public events listed above, The Princess Royal will also attend a number of private functions, including:

Government House
A ceremony to welcome The Princess Royal to Newfoundland and Labrador will be held at Government House.

Duke of Edinburgh Awards
The Princess Royal will present The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Gold Certificates to 100 youth from Newfoundland and Labrador; recognizing them for their significant contributions to their community as well as their own personal development.

Rainbow Riders Therapeutic Riding Centre
The Princess Royal will attend an official sod-turning event and unveil a commemorative plaque and the site development plan for the expanded Therapeutic Riding Centre. The Princess Royal will present the riders and volunteers with commemorative rosettes.

Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Welcome Reception
The Princess Royal will attend an official welcoming reception.

Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion
The Princess Royal will visit the pavilion and meet with veterans, residents and families.

Royal St. John's Regatta Event
The Princess Royal will unveil The Royal St. John's Regatta 200th anniversary championship rings to be presented to the championship male and female teams in 2018 to mark the 200th anniversary of the Royal St. John's Regatta.

100th Anniversary of the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel Commemorative Dinner
The Princess Royal will dine with the Officers, Warrant Officers and Sergeants of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment as well as other dignitaries, military members and special guests.

Mount Pleasant Cemetery
The Princess Royal will lay a wreath in front of the alternative commemoration memorial, located in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Then, The Princess Royal will unveil two information panels. Following the unveiling, The Princess Royal will walk to the cemetery's section C war graves plot where over 30 servicemen, who died as a result of the Knights of Columbus fire of December 12, 1942, are laid to rest.

HMCS St. John's
The Princess Royal will tour HMCS St. John's.
