Premier Announces New CEO of Nalcor Energy

Today, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, together with the Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, announced that H. Stanley Marshall has been named the new CEO of Nalcor Energy effective immediately.

“We are pleased that Mr. Marshall has accepted the position of CEO of Nalcor Energy. Throughout his extensive career, including 35 years with Fortis, Mr. Marshall has led multi-billion dollar organizations and large scale projects throughout the world. He has been doing this work very successfully all over the world, and now he’s going to do it at home. We are fortunate he has agreed to lead the province’s energy corporation.”

Mr. Marshall's career with Fortis spanned 35 years, leading the organization as President and CEO for more than 18 years. Mr. Marshall joined Newfoundland Power Inc. in 1979. He is a retired member in good standing of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Mr. Marshall holds a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and Bachelor of Law from Dalhousie University.

His accomplishments in developing Fortis into Canada’s largest gas and electrical distribution utility an‎d extremely successful company are well known and celebrated. He grew the corporation's total assets from less than $1.0 billion in 1996 to $18.6 billion. His leadership and expertise will help develop Nalcor, including the Muskrat Falls Project, for the benefit of the people of the province.”

Mr. Marshall joined Premier Ball and Minister Coady at today’s announcement. With specific reference to the Muskrat Falls Project, Mr. Marshall has a mandate from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to ensure this project gets back on track.

BIOGRAPHY - H. Stanley Marshall

H. Stanley Marshall, also known as Stan, served as President and CEO and Director of the Board of Directors of Fortis. Mr. Marshall’s career with Fortis spanned 35 years and he was at the helm as President and CEO for more than 18 years. Mr. Marshall served as the Chairman of FortisBC Holdings Inc (formerly, Terasen Inc). He was a Director of Fortis Properties Corporation. Mr. Marshall was a Director at FortisAlberta Inc., and FortisBC Inc. He has been Independent Director at Enerflex Ltd. since 2011 and he is Chair of its Human Resource Committee. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Fortis Inc. Mr. Marshall served as the President at Fortis Turks & Caicos. He served as an Interim President and Interim Chief Executive Officer of Fortis Properties, a subsidiary of FortisBC Inc., from April 1, 2005 to May 2005. Mr. Marshall served as the Chief Operating Officer of Fortis Inc. He joined Newfoundland Power Inc., in 1979. He served as the Chairman of FortisBC Inc. until December 31, 2014. He served as Chairman of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp., until December 31, 2014. Mr. Marshall served as the Chairman of the Board at FortisBC Energy Inc. until December 31, 2014. He served as the Chairman of FortisAlberta Inc., from April 17, 2007 to February 2008 and served as its Director from June 2004 to April 2011. Mr. Marshall served as a Director of FortisBC Energy Inc. from November 2007 to December 31, 2014. He served as an Independent Director of Toromont Industries Ltd., between 1998 and 2011. He served as a Director of the Conference Board of Canada. Mr. Marshall served as a Director of Maritime Electric Company, Limited, FortisOntario Inc. and Belize Electricity Limited. He served as a Director of Fortis Inc. between October 1, 1995 and December 31, 2014. He served as a Director of CH Energy Group Inc. until December 31, 2014. Mr. Marshall served as Director of Caribbean Utilities Co. Ltd from 2000 to December 31, 2014. He served as a Director of Newfoundland Power Inc. from 1992 to December 31, 2007. He is a retired member in good standing of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador and a Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
