Recognizing our Community Sector

Provincial Government Celebrates the Many Faces of Volunteering During National Volunteer Week

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement, is encouraging people to celebrate and recognize the important contributions of volunteers in Newfoundland and Labrador during National Volunteer Week in Canada from April 10 to 16. This year’s theme, The Many Faces of Volunteering, highlights the diversity of volunteers in inclusive communities and the lives they touch.

“This week ‎we honour and thank those who give so much of their time and talent in the service of others. From the dedicated people who help our seniors to those working to welcome newcomers from other countries, volunteers are essential to the province’s continued social, cultural and economic development.”
- The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement

As part of its ongoing commitment to Newfoundland and Labrador’s community sector, the Provincial Government’s InvolveNL website, www.InvolveNL.ca , supports province-wide volunteer and organization efforts by providing information on government programs and resources through a single, accessible website.

“It is extraordinary that in our busy times so many people are willing to give freely of their time. Volunteer Week it is a perfect time to say thank you to those who contribute and to celebrate the many faces of volunteering. At the Community Sector Council NL we believe this is also an opportunity to reflect on the privilege of volunteering and to reach out to others to join the ranks of the volunteer movement. Volunteers are the roots of our communities.”
- Penelope M. Rowe, Chief Executive Officer, Community Sector Council Newfoundland and Labrador
