Supporting the Economy Through Reduced Red Tape
Red Tape Awareness Week Recognized by Provincial Government
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) has named January 18 to 22 as Red Tape Awareness Week for 2016. This week recognizes the importance of reducing the regulatory burden on small businesses across Canada, which is a priority for the Provincial Government.
"As Premier, my mandate letter includes a commitment to cut red tape by conducting a thorough regulatory review to ensure the burden on business is minimized. As a government, we are focused on creating an attractive business environment, increasing productivity and enhancing economic growth. Red tape reduction will play an important role in achieving these goals, and I am pleased to reiterate our government's commitment in this regard during Red Tape Awareness Week."
- The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador
In the past, the CFIB has assessed Newfoundland and Labrador's Regulatory Reform and provided a grade and relative ranking of the province against other jurisdictions. No grade was provided this year in light of a new administration commencing its own approach to minimizing the regulatory burden on businesses.
"Red Tape Awareness Week is important because it highlights how burdensome regulations can hamper businesses and hold back economic development. The CFIB is pleased that the Provincial Government appears focused on this issue, and we look forward to working with the province as the voice of small business owners."
- Vaughn Hammond, Director of Provincial Affairs (Newfoundland and Labrador), Canadian Federation of Independent Business
