Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

ADDENDUM DEFICIENT:

Fermeuse Offshore Marine Base         (Reg. 1773)
Proponent: Fermeuse Enterprises Limited

The minister has advised the proponent that the addendum to the environmental preview report for this project is deficient and another addendum or environmental preview report is required to address information deficiencies, which include, but are not limited to: a hydrologic assessment of the Fermeuse drinking water supply source and a hydraulic assessment of the drinking water supply infrastructure.

MINISTER�S DECISION EXTENDED:

Placentia Bay Atlantic Salmon Aquaculture Project         (Reg. 1834)
Proponent: Grieg NL Nurseries Ltd. and Grieg NL Seafarms Ltd.

The Department of Environment and Conservation is extending the timeframe for the minister�s decision until such time as comments from a key agency have been received and reviewed. These comments are important to consider in conjunction with others received to date through the public review and agency referral processes. The department is committed to making an informed decision. The proponent has been notified that no new deadline has yet been set.

Sand & Gravel Quarry Operation near Piper�s Hole River         (Reg. 1837)
Proponent: Dean Clarke�s Contracting

The Department of Environment and Conservation and the proponent have agreed to extend the deadline for the minister�s decision to May 24, 2016.

White Hill Pond Quarry         (Reg. 1828)
Proponent: Cabot Ready Mix Limited

The Department of Environment and Conservation and the proponent have agreed to extend the deadline for the minister�s decision to June 7, 2016.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Foxtrap Gravel Quarry         (Reg. 1615)
Proponent: Murphy�s Services Inc.

The project is released subject to the following conditions:

  • The proponent must submit a site drainage and silt control plan to the Water Resources Management Division of the Department of Environment and Conservation, for approval under the Water Resources Act prior to starting operations at the quarry;
  • No quarrying activities are permitted below the groundwater table;
  • Vehicles used in the operation of the quarry (trucks, excavators etc.) must access the site via the TCH and must not use the Foxtrap Access Road.
