The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Badger Area Quarry (Reg.1841)
Proponent: KDJ Enterprises Ltd.
The proponent proposes to develop and operate a 10-hectare sand and gravel quarry approximately two kilometres east of the Town of Badger. The quarry will be located adjacent to two existing quarries and supply sand, gravel and rock for used in asphalt, and also provide Class A and B aggregate for road work and other construction projects in the Central Newfoundland region. Clearing and construction of the quarry is expected to take approximately five weeks and the quarry is proposed to operate yearly for a period of eight weeks following receipt of all approvals.
The undertaking was registered on May 11, 2016; the deadline for public comments is June 16, 2016; and the minister's decision is due by June 25, 2016.
Lower Cove Quarry Extension (Reg. 1840)
Proponent: Atlantic Minerals Limited
The proponent proposes a quarry extension for an area of approximately 140 hectares adjacent to their existing operations in the White Hills area on the Port au Port Peninsula. The quarry extension will include a haul road approximately two to three kilometres long, settling ponds, office building and maintenance facility. The quarry extension is planned to extend existing operations for approximately 25 years based on an estimated annual production of two million tonnes of high-grade calcium limestone and one million tonnes of dolomite limestone. The quarry extension is planned to be initiated in 2017.
The undertaking was registered on May 11, 2016; the deadline for public comments is June 16, 2016; and the minister's decision is due by June 25, 2016.
ADDENDUM TO REGISTRATION DOCUMENT SUBMITTED:
Argentia Access Road Industrial Composting Facility (Reg.1838)
Proponent: Metro Environmental Services Incorporated
The proponent has submitted an addendum to the environmental assessment registration document, outlining revised plans for the design, construction and operation of the proposed industrial composting facility. The revised plans will accommodate all receiving, mixing and composting activities within an enclosed building, which will enable the proponent to operate year round. The registration document and addendum is subject to a public and government review and can be viewed on the Department of Environment and Conservation website at: www.env.gov.nl.ca/env/env_assessment/projects/Y2016/1838/.
Public comments must be received by June 15, 2016, and the minister's decision on is due by June 25, 2016.

REVISED ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT REQUIRED:
Long Pond Weir (Reg. 1783)
Proponent: City of St. John's
The minister has advised the proponent that a revised Environmental Preview Report (EPR) is required for this project. The revised EPR is necessary to provide additional information including, but not limited to: updated sensitivity analysis, floodplain mapping and flood inundation mapping using current aerial imagery and LiDAR data; pre and post weir floodplain mapping from the outlet of Long Pond to Quidi Vidi Lake for various return periods; an assessment of the construction design flow; and a contingency plan for structure failure and/or failure of flow control equipment during the construction phase. The revised EPR will be posted on the department's web page and will undergo government and public review.
