Public Advisory: Public Hearing on Proposed Changes to Bay du Nord Wilderness Reserve
The Wilderness and Ecological Reserves Advisory Council (WERAC) is hosting a public hearing in the Town of Milltown-Head of Bay d'Espoir on Friday, April 8, to receive public input on proposed changes to the Bay du Nord Wilderness Reserve.
The hearing is being held as a follow-up to an October 29, 2015, hearing on a proposal to remove a 40 metre by 13 kilometre corridor from the reserve for the construction of a new transmission line.
Additional changes that are now being proposed include:
- Removal of a 10-metre wide right-of-way for an access road as well as other required construction trails; and
- Removal of five small quarry areas (each less than one hectare) for road building material.
The public hearing will be held at the Vancor Motel in Milltown-Head of Bay d'Espoir on Friday, April 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
For those who cannot attend, a comment form is available on the Department of Environment and Conservation website (www.env.gov.nl.ca/env/parks/wer/adc/) until April 15, 2016.
