Supporting Safe and Sustainable Drinking Water
Annual Clean and Safe Drinking Water Workshop Starts Today
Approximately 300 water system operators, municipal administrators and elected officials will gather in Gander this week for the 15th Annual Clean and Safe Drinking Water Workshop.
The three-day event will feature technical presentations and hands-on demonstrations on water system maintenance and treatment options. A trade show will also offer participants the opportunity to learn about products and services for the industry.
The Provincial Government places a high priority on the delivery of clean and safe drinking water to all residents of our province. By attending this workshop, participants are demonstrating their desire to learn from experts in the field and gain valuable information and skills.
- The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Environment and Conservation
The last day of the workshop will include the presentation of the Water Operator of the Year Awards. The awards are given annually to recognize an employee and a volunteer, each of whom has demonstrated professionalism and dedication to providing clean and safe drinking water.
Communities throughout the province are actively working toward improving their drinking water and our government is committed to supporting those efforts. After attending this workshop they will bring valuable knowledge back to their communities that will help them achieve that goal.
- The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs
The Department of Municipal Affairs provides a travel subsidy for participants to attend, through the Community Sustainability Partnership. The subsidy supports three regional service boards (Eastern, Central and Western) in their efforts to engage regional water and wastewater operators.
The annual workshop is offered free of charge by the Department of Environment and Conservation. It opens today, March 22, which is also United Nations World Water Day.
