Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE APPOINTED:

Logy Bay Road NORM Temporary Storage Facility                         (Reg. 1802)
Proponent: Crosbie Industrial Services Limited

On December 22, 2015, the minister advised the proponent that an Environmental Preview Report (EPR) is required for this project. An Environmental Assessment Committee has now been appointed to provide scientific and technical advice to the minister and to prepare draft guidelines for preparing the EPR. The assessment committee has representation from the following government agencies:

    • Pollution Prevention Division
    • Water Resources Management Division
  • Service NL
    • Occupational Health and Safety Division
    • Government Service Centre
  • Municipal Affairs
  • Health Canada

MINISTER�S DECISION EXTENDED:

White Hill Pond Quarry                          (Reg. 1828)
Proponent: Cabot Ready Mix Limited

The proponent, Cabot Ready Mix Limited, has agreed to extend the deadline for the minister�s decision to February 11, 2016.

UNDERTAKINGS EXPIRED:

The minister advises that a period of more than three years has elapsed since providing proponents with the determination that an Environmental Preview Report (EPR) is required, and an EPR has not been submitted to date for the following projects:

Incinerator Road Protein Conversion Plant                         (Reg. 1476)
Proponent: Country Ribbon Inc.

Hughes Brook Residential Subdivision                                (Reg. 1552)
Proponent: Mr. Miceal O�Leary

Fire Lake North Railway                                                      (Reg. 1646)
Proponent: Champion Minerals Inc.

The minister�s determination is considered void and the undertaking must be registered again, if the proponent wishes to proceed with the project.
