Supporting Career Education

Provincial Government Recognizes Atlantic Canada Career Week

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, is pleased to join Atlantic Ministers of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island to officially launch Atlantic Canada Career Week, taking place from October 31 to November 4.

"With career opportunities shifting so fast, it is very important for our young people to be well informed and to explore their options. I encourage all students to get involved in Career Week and to take advantage of career activities offered in their specific grade level. These activities can help you discover your career interests and potentially open the door to a wide range of career choices."
- The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development

The theme of the Atlantic Canada Career Week, Create Your Own Future, is intended to promote and support career development using a whole school approach as an integral component of student learning, including age-appropriate career activities to support students in their specific grade level. The career week also provides post-secondary education students with specific activities to assist them in their career development pathways.

"Engaging in post-secondary education and training is an exciting time of exploration and learning in a student's life. It can lead to further education and stronger attachment to the labour market. The Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour provides a wealth of information to post-secondary students and the general public about available employment programs and funding, career education, labour market information, and much more. This information can help people on their journey to finding meaningful employment and successful futures in our province. I also encourage people to get involved in Atlantic Canada Career Week at Memorial University, College of the North Atlantic and at our private training institutions province-wide and take advantage of the activities and information available."
- The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

Atlantic Career Week was initiated by the Council of Atlantic Ministers of Education and Training (CAMET). CAMET is an agency of the departments responsible for public and post-secondary education and its purpose is to enhance cooperation in public and post-secondary education in Atlantic Canada by improving learning, optimizing efficiencies and bringing added value to provincial initiatives and priorities.
