Students to Participate in the Atlantic Canada Career Week
Students in all schools and post-secondary education institutions in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island will be invited to participate in activities promoting careers during the week of October 31 to November 4 as part of the Atlantic Canada Career Week to be launched by the Council of Atlantic Ministers of Education and Training (CAMET).
The theme of the Atlantic Canada Career Week is Create Your Own Future, and is intended to promote and support career development using a whole school approach as an integral component of student learning, including age-appropriate career activities to support students in their specific grade level. The career week also provides post-secondary education students with specific activities to assist them in their career development pathways.
The Atlantic Canada Career Week will feature a specific theme for each day of the week, with resources provided
for corresponding student activities that are pre-planned and tied to the existing curriculum outcomes in a
variety of course subjects. During the week, students will explore and undertake activities relating to
self-assessment and self-exploration, the development of entrepreneurial skills, career experience and workplace
experience, networking and making connections, and planning for the future. The activities will be available in
a print format or can be downloaded at
www.atlanticcanadacareerweek.ca
.
Atlantic ministers of education, post-secondary education and training are delighted to further collaborate in the area of career development. They strongly believe that the Atlantic Canada Career Week will complement existing and planned provincial initiatives to assist students to effectively manage career choices as part of their ongoing learning in public and post-secondary education.
The Atlantic Canada Career Week builds on the Canadian Career Month sponsored by the Canadian Council for Career
Development and the recommendations contained in Future in Focus - Atlantic Career Development Framework for
Public Education: 2015-2020, released by CAMET in June 2015 (available at
www.camet-camef.ca ).
At their September 21st meeting, ministers of education, post-secondary education, and training also announced
the development of competencies to demonstrate the required skills needed to effectively transition from studies
to work.
The Council of Atlantic Ministers of Education and Training (CAMET) is an agency of the departments responsible for public and post-secondary education, and its purpose is to enhance cooperation in public (Entry-12) and post-secondary education in Atlantic Canada by working together to improve learning, optimize efficiencies and bring added value to provincial initiatives.
