Investing in School Infrastructure

Provincial Government Moving Forward with Renovation and Extension Project for St. Peter’s Primary

The Provincial Government has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the renovation and extension of St. Peter’s Primary in Mount Pearl. The RFP is one of several projects planned to address school capacity and revitalize school infrastructure, which supports government’s goal of meeting the needs of today’s students and educators.

“Our government is committed to moving forward with the renovation and extension project for St. Peter’s Primary. This project is an important part of the school infrastructure planning our government is focused on, as we continue to ensure we invest in the most efficient and improved school system possible for the people and students of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
- The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development

The RFP for this project will use a design-build approach, where the contractor is responsible for the design as well as construction. The project includes a new gymnasium and the repurposing of the existing gymnasium into a cafeteria and classroom space. Various site improvements are also part of the overall plan. Students will continue to attend school during the construction phase and will have use of the current gymnasium while the new one is being completed.

The renovation and extension is anticipated to be completed during the 2018-19 school year.

“The extension and renovation of St. Peter’s Primary is one of many infrastructure projects being supported by government this year through an overall investment of $570 million for roads, schools, health care facilities and municipal infrastructure. This level of funding encourages economic activity and the growth and sustainability of our communities.”
- The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Transportation and Works
