Recognizing Those Dedicated to Students

Awards Celebrate Canada�s Outstanding Principals

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, is congratulating three principals from the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District who have been recognized as Canada�s Outstanding Principals. The awards, sponsored by The Learning Partnership, recognize remarkable principals from every province and territory in Canada.

�Congratulations to the principals from Newfoundland and Labrador and recipients from across the country. They should be proud of their innovative leadership and dedication to our public education system. They all make a difference in the lives of students by ensuring they receive a high quality education in a safe, caring and inclusive environment. Being recognized as one of Canada�s outstanding principals is truly a prestigious honour.�

The 2016 award recipients from Newfoundland and Labrador are:

  • Cindy Barker, Stephenville Elementary School, Stephenville;
  • Denise Francis, St. James Elementary School, Port aux Basques; and
  • Kimberly Leonard, Mary Queen of Peace School, St. John�s.

The annual awards recognize the outstanding contributions of principals in publicly funded schools who demonstrate innovation, entrepreneurial spirit and who have done something truly remarkable in public education.
