Public Advisory: Sections of the T'Railway Provincial Park will Remain Closed for the Winter 2016-17 Season

In the interest of public safety, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is maintaining a closure of portions of the T'Railway Provincial Park that suffered extensive damage as a result of the severe rainfall during the Thanksgiving weekend. The portion of the T'Railway which includes a 180 kilometre section west of Badger to Gander, and an area near Port Blandford, will remain closed to users for the 2016-17 winter season.

The Department of Environment and Climate Change has installed signage in key areas indicating the closure; however, snowmobilers and other T'Railway users are asked to be mindful of the closure as extensive washouts remain and continue to pose safety concerns, particularly in winter weather when snow can cover hazardous portions of the trail.

Users of the T'Railway Provincial Park are advised to exercise extreme caution as other areas of the trail may have been affected by severe rainfall. Work is in progress with inspection and detailed assessment currently ongoing. Further closures may be necessary and updates will be provided in the coming weeks.

To report damage, please contact the Parks and Natural Areas Division at trailway@gov.nl.ca or by telephone at 637-2040.
