New Department Will Advance Climate Change Priorities
The new Department of Environment and Climate Change will advance Newfoundland and Labrador's climate change mitigation and adaptation priorities while continuing to focus on the conservation and protection of our natural environment.
"Bringing environmental stewardship and climate change priorities
together under one department is a natural alignment and one that can help
advance the profile of climate change initiatives in our province. Our
government has made significant progress in raising public awareness,
advancing consultation with large industry and the public, and addressing
greenhouse gas emissions during our time in office. I am pleased to continue
this important work within this new department, as we continue to protect
and enhance our environment, and manage our provinces' wildlife resources."
- The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Environment and Climate
Change
The new department will focus on:
- Protection and enhancement of the environment;
- Management of wildlife;
- Management of water resources;
- Management of parks and protected areas; and
- Development of actions and strategies on climate change, energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions.
Websites as well as documentation for the department will be changed to reflect the new department name.
