Joining the Conversation on Food
Newfoundland and Labrador Good Food Challenge Takes Place in November
During the month of November, Food First NL is holding the annual Newfoundland and Labrador Good Food Challenge to encourage people to discuss and learn more about food and food issues as a way toward healthier eating. The conversation will take place primarily through social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).
"Our government is committed to promoting healthy eating habits through a combination of
awareness campaigns and community outreach. By working with Food First NL and other community
partners, we are investing in healthy living programs and early intervention and work toward
achieving a healthy population in Newfoundland and Labrador."
- The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development
Food First NL (formerly the Food Security Network of NL) is a non-profit organization established in 1998 that has over 1000 organizations and individual members. The organization actively promotes comprehensive, community-based solutions to ensure access to adequate and healthy food for all.
The Provincial Government provides $105,000 annual funding to Food First NL to support their focus on public awareness, community action and strategic partnerships.
"Newfoundland and Labrador faces a variety of food-related challenges. Alongside these challenges,
however, lies an incredible capacity to come together around solutions. The Good Food Challenge
taps into that potential by sparking a month-long discussion about food and food issues. It
offers an accessible platform for all people to engage with the ongoing provincial dialogue
around food, and contribute to building a stronger, more resilient food system."
- Tyler Blacquiere, Communications Coordinator, Food First NL
