Supporting Our Arts Community

Resource Centre for the Arts Receives Operational Funding

The Provincial Government, through the Cultural Economic Development Program, has provided the Resource Centre for the Arts (RCA) – a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the development, promotion and presentation of the performing arts and artists of Newfoundland and Labrador – $100,000 in operational support.

“For over 40 years, the Resource Centre for the Arts has been a hot spot of cultural activity not only in St. John’s but throughout the province’s entire arts community. Year after year, RCA continues to produce and create various artistic works and provides space for Newfoundland and Labrador artists, as well as other groups and individuals, through its venue rental and presentation programs. This province is home to some tremendously talented artists and for many, their development and success would not be possible without the dedicated efforts of the RCA.”
- The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

RCA operates out of the LSPU Hall, a registered heritage building in the heart of downtown St. John’s. RCA enables both emerging and established artists, and cultural not-for-profits, to afford to showcase their talent and their art. The centre also provides training for local technicians using up-to-date technology such as digital sound equipment, thereby increasing their skill set and helping to secure employment and further their careers. “Without the continued support and commitment from the Provincial Government starting with the renovations up until now, the Hall would not be able to exist and to continue to support the diverse and talented artistic community of this province.”
- Suzanne Mullett, General Manager, LSPU Hall

The Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) provides financial support to professional arts organizations for events or projects that stimulate sustainable economic development of the province's cultural resources.
