Media Advisory: Minister Mitchelmore to Plant a Flower in the Beaumont Hamel Memorial Garden

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, will plant a flower in the Beaumont Hamel Memorial Garden – Garden of Tears tonight (Monday, June 20). The ceremony is being held by the Opera on the Avalon and will take place on the lawn of the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The Opera on the Avalon is holding a month-long commemoration ceremony recognizing the extraordinary sacrifices made by members of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment in honour of the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Beaumont Hamel. As part of the commemoration, The Opera on the Avalon is presenting “Ours”, a new Canadian Opera commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Beaumont Hamel, July 1-3 at the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre.
