Supporting Women in Business
Province Supports International Business Development Opportunities
The Provincial Government, in partnership with the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women (NLOWE), is supporting local women entrepreneurs to participate in two international trade shows this month. The Provincial Government has invested $11,500 to assist three local companies with their international business development activities.
“As a government, we are committed to advancing opportunities for women entrepreneurs and women in business. Through these two special events designed especially for women-owned businesses, delegates will have exclusive access to connect for potential business opportunities with Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 companies in the United States. Both conferences will feature high-caliber networking, business to business match-making and inspiring speakers. Investment in trade missions such as these not only provides opportunities for women to grow their business ventures, but it also helps to diversify and grow our provincial economy.”
- The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development
Participants will attend Women in Business – North American Summit in Atlanta, Georgia, June 15-17, 2016 and Women’s Business Enterprise National Council National Conference and Business Fair in Orlando, Florida, June 20-23, 2016.
Participants include:
- Christina Adams, Owner – Antenna Social Media & Design
- Susan Fitzgerald, President – Fitz’s Mobile Welding
- Cindy Roma and Sydney Ryan, Co-CEOs – The Call Centre (Telelink)*
*Attending both conferences
In addition to this funding, the Provincial Government has provided $71,275 to support NLOWE’s export program, which assists local women entrepreneurs to grow their business in international markets.
“At NLOWE, we believe that it is important that women entrepreneurs are encouraged to export and that opportunities to explore international business are readily accessible. Studies show that women-owned businesses that export earn more revenue and employ more people than those that do not; thus strengthening both the provincial and global economy. That is why we are so pleased to have the support of the Provincial Government to provide export initiatives and programs focused on women entrepreneurs to help them advance their businesses on the global stage.”
- Hilda Broomfield Letemplier, President, NLOWE Board of Directors
The Women in Business – North American Summit will bring together women-owned businesses from Canada, Mexico and the Southeast United States. Participants will have opportunities for B2B technology partnerships and access to global value chains as well as export expansion.
The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council National Conference and Business Fair is the world’s largest supplier diversity conference for women. Local companies will have the opportunity to network with senior executives and procurement specialists from the Fortune 500, the U.S. Government, as well as women business leaders from over 18 countries. This conference is also a great outlet for women to leverage their business certification to access global supply chains.
