Tourism Sector Grows Through Collaboration

Provincial Government Invests $765,000 in Tourism Partnerships

Tourism in Newfoundland and Labrador continues to grow as an economic engine. The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, today announced $765,000 in support of tourism partnerships.

Budget 2016 provides $765,000 to the following tourism organizations:

  • Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador – $115,000 in support of the Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism Board and $50,000 to support professional development initiatives in the tourism industry.
  • Legendary Coasts - Eastern Destination Management Organization – $150,000
  • Adventure Central - Central Destination Management Organization – $150,000
  • Go Western - Western Destination Management Organization – $150,000
  • Destination Labrador – $150,000

The Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism Board is responsible for advising on the implementation of Uncommon Potential: A Vision for Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism (Vision 2020). It is a collaborative effort established to implement Vision 2020, with a goal of growing tourism spending by the year 2020 to $1.6 billion.

Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador (HNL) – the largest industry association in the province – was established in 1983 as a non-profit membership association that leads, supports, represents and enhances the province’s tourism industry.

The four regional Destination Management Organizations are partnership-based, not-for-profit industry associations representing the tourism sector in their regions providing marketing, tourism product development, and market readiness support to their members and partners.
