Strengthening Cultural Economic Development

Investment of $200,000 Supports Publishing Industry

Through an investment of $200,000 the Provincial Government is supporting the Publishers Assistance Program, which helps local publishers promote their work provincially, nationally and internationally. The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, will attend the launch of artist Bobbi Pike�s new adult colouring book, The Colours of Newfoundland and Labrador in St. John�s tonight. The colouring bookwas published by Creative Book Publishing which is supported by a grant from the Publishers Assistance Program.

�The Provincial Government recognizes the vast amount of literary talent in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Publishers Assistance Program is designed to strengthen our literary sector by encouraging quality products and valuable marketing, and by making professional development services available to publishers. We firmly believe in this program and maximizing artistic and economic potential is important to our government. That is why we maintained $18.5 million in Budget 2016 to support arts and heritage in our province.�

The Publishers Assistance Program is a component of the Cultural Economic Development Program. Additional information on the Publishers Assistance Program is available at www.btcrd.gov.nl.ca/artsculture/cedp/publishers_assistance_program.html. The deadline for applications is May 30, 2016.

Through Budget 2016, $2.5 million is being provided under the Cultural Economic Development Program (which includes the Publishers Assistance Program) to support arts and heritage initiatives. Projects are selected based on the strength of the business plan, vision and potential for development within the sector.
