Public Advisory: Conservation Officers Continue Enforcement Efforts on Snowmobile Trails
Conservation officers with the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency, Forestry Services Branch, continue to enforce regulations under the Motorized Snow Vehicles and All-Terrain Vehicle Act. During the first two months of 2016, officers checked 442 snowmobiles province-wide, issuing 38 warnings and 46 summary offence tickets.
Tickets and warnings were issued for various offences, including operating a snowmobile without a trail sticker, licence plate or adequate noise reducing equipment, as well as failure to obey the direction of a peace officer. Following joint check stations on February 5 and February 12, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police also issued several summary offence tickets to riders with no valid insurance.
The agency enforces the Motorized Snow Vehicles and All-Terrain Vehicles Act by conducting patrols on the 3,700 kilometre groomed trail network licensed to the Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation. Patrols will continue as long as trails are being maintained.
