Minister Byrne Announces Funding to Transition House Association of Newfoundland and Labrador for Training Initiative

Today, the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, announced over $36,000 in funding for the Transition House Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (THANL) to provide province-wide training in Mental Health First Aid to 50 individuals employed at transition houses.

"This important initiative will provide frontline workers in transition houses with enhanced skills to better assist individuals affected by mental health issues. Our government believes that mental health is just as important as physical health and we are pleased to help the Transition House Association of Newfoundland and Labrador provide this training to their frontline workers."
- The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The mandate of THANL is to strengthen and support the network of provincially-funded shelters and services for women - with or without children - affected by relationship violence. This contribution from the Provincial Government will assist the organization in providing necessary training to meet this mandate.

"As we continue to ensure women and their children have access to valuable support and services, THANL is pleased to be able to offer mental health first aid training to transition house staff."
- Dan Meades, Provincial Coordinator, Transition House Association of Newfoundland and Labrador

Since 1987, THANL has provided member organizations with guidance, training, research and community awareness initiatives. THANL is a strong collective voice in equality-seeking work in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
