Supporting Post-Secondary Students

Provincial Government Announces Recipients of Student Employment Grants

More than 1,000 post-secondary students will gain valuable work experience this summer with $1.95 million in funding provided by the Student Summer Employment Program - Post-Secondary. The program allows private sector employers and not-for-profit organizations to avail of a wage subsidy to help them hire post-secondary students for the summer months.

"Ensuring students get the best work experience possible is an important part of their educational experience and allows them to pay for post-secondary education. Youth employment positions throughout the province offer young people the necessary skills, confidence and knowledge to prepare for their careers."
- The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills

The Department of Advanced Education and Skills is awarding funding to businesses and non-profit groups to employ post-secondary students in a variety of positions, including the recreation, heritage and retail sectors.

The Student Summer Employment Program - Post-Secondary helps connect post-secondary students in the province with employment during the summer months. Summer student employment programs are supported through funding provided by the Provincial Government and are delivered by the Department of Advanced Education and Skills employment centres throughout the province.

"Our vision is to have a world where everyone has a safe, decent and affordable place to live. This funding will give post-secondary students an opportunity to gain valuable skills and work experience, while helping families have the pride of homeownership."
- Sandra Whiffen, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity Newfoundland and Labrador
