Improving Infrastructure for Communities and Families

Infrastructure Improvements Get Underway in the District of Bellevue

Road repairs, paving, asphalt levelling, bridge replacements and wharf upgrades are currently underway as part of three contracts awarded by the Provincial Government valued at over $2.7 million. The contracts were awarded last month and work is ongoing. All three will be completed this construction season.

"Significant investment has been made in the Bellevue area to address road and other infrastructure needs. Our government allocated $317.9 million for infrastructure projects through Budget 2015, including $204 million for provincial highways, roads and bridges. The ongoing work in the District of Bellevue will help to enhance safety and to provide a reliable transportation network for families and businesses in the region."
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

As part of a contract valued at approximately $2 million, awarded to Farrell's Excavating Ltd., the following work will be completed:

  • Upgrading and paving various locations including Route 201 from Thornlea towards Bellevue, Route 201-14 from Bellevue Beach to Route 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) and Route 2-1-03 in Arnold's Cove;
  • Asphalt levelling of Route 201 from the intersection of Route 201-14 to the Bellevue Beach Park entrance and Route 201-16 in Chance Cove;
  • Asphalt levelling of 1.3 kilometres in Chapel Arm and 0.3 kilometres of rehab work in Norman's Cove; and
  • Asphalt repairs to Route 203 in Fair Haven.

As part of a contract valued at approximately $700,000, awarded to Bay By Bay Recycling Ltd., two concrete bridges will be replaced with steel box structures on Route 201, near Bellevue. This contract also includes the associated road work and paving.

The third initiative, valued at over $24,000, was awarded to PTL Services Ltd. for repairs to the ferry terminal wharf in Bay L'Argent.

"The infrastructure improvements being undertaken this construction season are a welcome investment in the region. As a result of this work, residents will have better roads to travel, and those that use the wharf in Bay L'Argent will see some great improvements and upgrades there as well."
- Calvin Peach, MHA for Bellevue
