Building Infrastructure to Connect Communities

Over $1 Million in Road Upgrades for the Burin Peninsula

The Provincial Government has awarded a tender to Nortech Construction Co Ltd. valued at over $1 million for road upgrades in the District of Burin-Placentia West. The contract was awarded July 14 and the work is scheduled to be completed by the end of the current construction season.

The tender includes:

  • Upgrading of intersection at Route 210 and Route 210-23 at Jean de Baie;
  • Upgrading and paving of Route 210 at Marystown;
  • Rehabilitation of Route 221-15 at Mortier Road;
  • Asphalt overlay on Route 220 and Route 221 at Burin; and
  • Replacing culverts and repairing bridge approaches at various locations on the Burin Peninsula.

Budget 2015 allocates $317.9 million in priority infrastructure projects, including $204 million for provincial roads, bridges and other road work. High quality transportation infrastructure is integral to the social and economic growth of Newfoundland and Labrador, which are key elements of the recently launched Population Growth Strategy.

QUICK FACTS:

  • A tender valued at over $1 million has been awarded to Nortech Construction Co Ltd. for road upgrades at a number of locations on the Burin Peninsula.
  • The contract includes upgrades at Jean de Baie, Marystown, Route 221-15 at Mortier Road, Route 220 and Route 221 at Burin, and at various other locations throughout the district.
  • Over the past three years, more than $400 million has helped maintain, upgrade and enhance hundreds of kilometres of roads, as well as replace 23 bridges and repair 40 other bridges throughout the province.
