Provincial Government Awards Contract for Road Repairs on Route 440

A tender has been awarded to Mike Kelly and Sons Ltd. for road repairs on the North Shore Highway - Riverside Drive (Route 440) on the west coast of the province.

“The contract awarded today for repair work on Route 440, valued at nearly $1.3 million, will greatly improve the transportation network in the area for residents and visitors. The Provincial Government has worked diligently to ensure priority infrastructure needs throughout Newfoundland and Labrador are being addressed. Today’s investment through the Provincial Road Program is part of an overall $70.3 million investment this year, and will undoubtedly have a significant and positive impact in the area.
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

The repair work being undertaken as part of this project includes replacing two retaining walls and restoring the road to its original alignment. The existing retaining walls deteriorated and failed resulting in an instability and settlement of the road. The repair work will be completed this year.

Over the past three years, more than $400 million has been spent in maintaining, upgrading and enhancing hundreds of kilometres of roads, as well as replacing 23 bridges and repairing 40 other bridges throughout the province. High quality transportation infrastructure is integral to the social and economic growth of Newfoundland and Labrador, which are key elements of the recently launched Population Growth Strategy.
