Upgrades Set to Begin for Happy Valley-Goose Bay Wharf

The Provincial Government has awarded a contract valued at $299,000 for enhancements to the wharf at Happy Valley-Goose Bay to Paulo Ventures Inc., a company located in St. Lewis on the south coast of Labrador.

“The wharf project for Happy Valley-Goose Bay is an important piece of work and one of many necessary investments to upgrade and maintain marine infrastructure throughout the province. This tender calls for a significant infrastructure upgrade to the wharf which will be undertaken by a local business in Labrador, supporting the local economy and residents.”

In addition to the Happy Valley-Goose Bay wharf, upgrades will also be made this summer to the wharves at Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, Bell Island, Fogo Island, and Rencontre East. The tender for the work in Happy Valley-Goose Bay includes repairs to the concrete wharf deck, mooring bollards, and the ladders and fenders of the wharf.

Annually, the provincial fleet of ferries transports more than 900,000 passengers, 400,000 vehicles, and 20,000 tonnes of freight across more than 50,000 arrivals and departures.
