Enhancing Infrastructure to Benefit Families and Communities

Tender Call for Upgrades at English Harbour

The Provincial Government has issued a tender for construction of a culvert which will result in the re-opening of R230-21 at English Harbour on the Bonavista Peninsula.

“With responsibility for over 10,000 kilometres of provincial roads and bridges, the Department of Transportation and Works continues to prioritize road construction projects. Residents benefit from improved infrastructure networks, and Budget 2015 will see an investment of more than $204 million for upgrades and enhancements to provincial highways, roads, and bridges.”
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

The tender calls for construction of an aluminum box culvert at Route 230-21 in English Harbour. The work is anticipated to take place over the course of the summer and early fall. Upon completion, the traffic diversion that is currently in use will no longer be necessary and the original route across the bridge will be re-established.

“The installation of a culvert in English Harbour is an important upgrade to infrastructure on the Bonavista Peninsula. As MHA for this region, I am pleased that our government is making an investment that will allow the original route through the community to be reopened benefiting residents and visitors to the area. ”
- The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Finance and MHA for Trinity North

The Provincial Government remains committed to providing a safe and reliable transportation network throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Over the past three years, more than $400 million has helped maintain, upgrade and enhance hundreds of kilometres of roads, as well as replace 23 bridges and repair 40 other bridges throughout the province.
