Prioritizing Infrastructure to Support Residents
Upgrades Coming for North Shore Highway on the Province’s West Coast
The Provincial Government is calling the tender for enhancements to Route 440, also referred to as the North Shore Highway or Riverside Drive on the west coast. Work on the highway is anticipated to commence this summer.
“Enhancements to the North Shore Highway will be funded through the Provincial Roads Program, which has been allocated approximately $70.3 million this year, and which includes a number of multi-year projects along with the continuation of brush clearing and dust suppression programs. Route 440, which is used extensively by residents and visitors, has been identified as a priority for work this year and these upgrades will serve all motorists well in the years ahead.”
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works
The tender work will include the replacement of two retaining walls and road realignment. The Provincial Government remains committed to providing a safe and reliable transportation network throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Over the past three years, more than $400 million has helped maintain, upgrade and enhance hundreds of kilometres of roads, as well as replace 23 bridges and repair 40 other bridges.
