Preparing Fogo Island Wharf for Arrival of MV Veteran

The tender has been awarded for enhancements to the Fogo Island wharf to accommodate the MV Veteran, which is anticipated to arrive this fall. A contract for over $772,000 has been awarded to Bennett’s Construction & Supplies Limited of Grand Bank.

“Our government has allocated $41.5 million this year, as part of a total investment of $126.8 million for the purchase of two ferries for the province, and we continue to make great strides in ensuring that our marine infrastructure is ready for the size and modern design of the new ferries. The Provincial Government is committed to supporting the ferry service for residents as well as visitors to Fogo Island and Change Islands, as it transports over 160,000 passengers and over 80,000 vehicles annually.”
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

The tender for Fogo Island wharf includes modifications to the ramp and widening of the approach to the ramp in order to accommodate the larger dimensions of the new ferry. The MV Veteran, an 80-metre ice-class ferry, will accommodate 200 passengers and 60 vehicles.

“I am pleased the tender has been awarded for enhancements to the Fogo Island wharf. The Provincial Government continues to make significant investments in the Fogo Island and Change Islands ferry service. As we await the arrival of the MV Veteran, upgrades to the wharf further demonstrate our government’s commitment.”
