Public Advisory: Update on Flooding Impacts in Central Region

Transportation and Works crews are making significant progress to repair damaged road infrastructure due to heavy rains, mostly in the central region, earlier this week. All roads that were closed have now reopened and further repair work is being carried out as water levels and weather conditions permit. In all areas, motorists are advised to drive with caution, obey signs and follow directions, as speed limits have been reduced in some locations, and barriers and temporary bypasses are in place.

Current status of impacted areas:

  • Route 330 (Bonavista North) - All repairs completed, traffic is flowing in both directions. Further updates not required.
  • Route 413 (Burlington area) - Road is open, crews are on site and repairs are expected to be completed by end of day today.
  • Route 320 (Hare Bay) - all repairs completed. Further updates not required.
  • Route 320-33 (Greenspond Access Road, Southwest Pond) - all repairs completed.Further updates not required.
  • Route 333-21 (Fogo Island) - all repairs completed. Further updates not required.
  • Route 391 (Harry's Harbour road) - water has receded and traffic is moving in both directions. Signs and cones are in place. Final repairs will be completed next week.
  • Route 392 (Little Bay area) - one lane opened; crews continue to escort traffic over a temporary bypass.
  • Route 438 - The road to Croque at the intersection with Route 432 is now open with some sections reduced to one lane. The speed limit is reduced to 30 km/h.
  • Route 361(Milltown) - Motorists are advised to use caution, obey signs and reduce speeds, as a new culvert pipe is being installed. Repairs are expected to be completed by early next week.

Transportation and Works continues to work in cooperation with the RCMP, Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador and affected communities.

Flooding can often occur quickly and without warning. Therefore, being prepared in advance is essential to the safety and security of individuals, homes and community infrastructure. Information regarding emergency preparedness is available at www.getprepared.gc.ca .
