Public Advisory: Update on Flooding Impacts in Central Region

The Department of Transportation and Works advises that crews are on site at all areas impacted by flooding in the central region of the province, assessing damage and carrying out repairs. Work is progressing and it is anticipated, pending weather conditions and necessary repairs, that closed roads will reopen by evening.

Currently, impacted areas include:

  • Route 330 (Bonavista North) - closed between Musgrave Harbour and the Ladle Cove intersection. Road assessments are ongoing.
  • Route 413 (Burlington area) - Road is open, and crews are on site and have begun repairs.
  • Route 320 (Hare Bay) - this route remains open, motorists should use caution as repairs will be ongoing for several days.
  • Route 320-33 (Greenspond Access Road, Southwest Pond) - road is open.
  • Route 333-21 (Fogo Island) - the road is passable and repairs will begin when weather conditions allow.
  • Route 391 Harry's Harbour road: the road is open and signage is in place.
  • Route 392 Beachside: The road is down to one lane and crews are onsite to escort traffic.
  • Route 438: The road to Croque at the intersection with Route 432 is closed, but passable for emergency vehicles. Repairs will begin shortly.

The department is working with the RCMP, Fire and Emergency Services - Newfoundland and Labrador (FES-NL) and the municipalities affected. FES-NL is also in regular contact with the affected communities and emergency management partners in the region and is providing advice and guidance as needed.

Communities and first responders can contact FES-NL at 709-729-3703 (24 hours a day) for assistance.

FES-NL reminds communities and residents that flooding can often occur quickly and without warning. Therefore, being prepared in advance is essential. Information regarding flooding and general emergency preparedness is available at www.getprepared.gc.ca .
