Retrofits Modernize St. Johns Social Housing Properties

A complete interior and exterior retrofit is currently underway on four social housing homes on New Pennywell Road in St. Johns. Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation has awarded a $530,000 contract to Can-Am Platforms and Construction Ltd., to carry out the work.

These renovations are part of the substantial modernization and improvement work that has been literally changing the face of social housing throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. We are pleased to see the positive impacts this is having for tenants and their communities.
- The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation

The four vacant units are contained in two duplex buildings. The upgrades will include reducing the three-bedroom homes to two-bedrooms, to reflect the current demographic needs of smaller families and single adults. The buildings will receive new roofing, siding, windows, doors, and complete renovated interiors, including new flooring, bathrooms, kitchens, and ventilation systems, plumbing and electrical systems. The work is expected to be completed later this spring.

Since 2007, close to 77 per cent of Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation units province-wide have received modernizations and improvements.
