Supporting Healthy Communities

Almost $138,000 Invested in Physical Activity Equipment

The Provincial Government has provided almost $138,000 in physical activity equipment grants to 62 communities and organizations through the 2014-15 Community Recreation Support Program.

�Sport, recreation and physical activity are vital components of community living, and having suitable equipment encourages and supports more participation in such activities. This funding will provide citizens of all ages with improved opportunities to become more physically active through various programs and services offered in their communities.�

Grants up to a maximum of $3,000 are available to communities and organizations to support the purchase or repair of equipment that promotes physical activity. The grants approved to date will be used for a variety of purchases such as shuffleboards, snowshoes, and various other sport and fitness equipment. The Department of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development was established, in part, to bring more focus to government-wide efforts to promote physical activity and wellness initiatives that are inclusive to citizens of all ages.
