Provincial Government Releases Feedback on Lands Act Review

With the consultation phase of the Lands Act review complete, the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, today released a What We Heard document. The report is available at www.miga.gov.nl.ca/lands/lands_act.html.

I am pleased by the level of interest and input from the public and stakeholders on this review. This document is a comprehensive compilation of the feedback that emerged as part of the public consultation process; it captures the concerns, issues and ideas of those with an interest regarding Crown lands.
- The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs

The What We Heard document related to the Lands Act review summarizes suggestions, comments and ideas gathered from public consultation sessions and written submissions.

Over 190 participants attended the province-wide consultation sessions, including residents and individuals representing a variety of sectors and organizations such as agriculture, tourism, municipal government and the business community. The department also received 20 responses to the online discussion guide as well as over 45 written submissions.

I thank all the residents and stakeholders who participated in the consultative process of this review, either through in-person sessions throughout the province or via online and written submissions. The valuable feedback gathered from this review will be utilized to inform the final recommendations document.
- Minister Hutchings

It was anticipated that the final report would be completed in June but due to the significant interest in consultations and a desire to ensure full and fair consideration of feedback received, the committee has received an extension, with the final report now due at the end of July.
