Recognizing Those Committed to Safer Communities

Minister Congratulates Recipients of Commissions and Exemplary Service Bars and Medals

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, today congratulated this year’s recipients of Commissions and Exemplary Service Bars and Medals for the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) and Corrections. The awards were presented on October 27 and 28 at ceremonies hosted by the Honourable Frank Fagan, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador

“These Commissions and Exemplary Service Medals are presented to police and corrections officers in recognition of their decades of service to making Newfoundland and Labrador as safe as possible for all residents. The dedication these officers have shown over the years as they carry out their important duties is to be commended.”
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice and Public Safety

The Corrections Exemplary Service Medal was created in 1984, and recognizes employees of the correctional services throughout Canada who have served in an exemplary manner, characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency. Police officers across Canada receive the Police Exemplary Service Medal in recognition of 20 years of meritorious service and Police Exemplary Service Bar in recognition of 30 years of meritorious service.

“That fact that these RNC and corrections officers have worked for so long in such demanding and challenging positions is a testament to their commitment to safe communities. The knowledge and experience that these officers have gained over their careers is a significant asset and I encourage all recipients to impart what they have learned to their younger colleagues.”
- Minister King
