Public Advisory: Updated Information Regarding Adverse Weather Conditions Affecting Newfoundland and Labrador

As a follow-up to the Public Advisory issued yesterday (Monday, February 2) regarding anticipated high water levels due to the low pressure system currently making its way through the province, Environment Canada has now issued a storm surge warning for Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity.

Environment Canada now reports that higher than normal water levels with very large waves are expected near the coast in Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity. Coastal areas exposed to the south to southeast will have the greatest risk for minor coastal flooding due to the combination of surge, tide and waves this morning. Conditions will improve by noon with the ebbing tide.

Municipalities and local service districts should ensure infrastructure such as roads, ditches and drains are clear of debris and appropriate provisions are made for the delivery of services in the event the weather has a greater effect than anticipated.

Residents are also reminded to follow the latest weather forecast for further alert bulletins and to take measures to ensure personal safety.
