Health Care Investments Strengthen Communities, Support Families

$6.7 Million Investment Supports Health Care in Central Region

Residents of Grand Falls-Windsor, Buchans and surrounding communities will benefit from over $6.7 million in health care funding for the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Carmelite House and A. M. Guy Memorial Health Centre.

“Access to quality health care services is a top priority for our government. Investments in our health care facilities for upgrades and new equipment ensure that our health care workers have the best tools available to them as they provide care. This funding of more than $6.7 million will be used to purchase modern, efficient equipment which will benefit the residents of Grand Falls-Windsor, Buchans and all communities served by these facilities.”
-The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Health and Community Services

Approximately $6.1 million is allocated for renovations and equipment at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre. The funding will be used for upgrades to the electrical and emergency power systems and for the purchase of laboratory, diagnostic imaging, food services, patient and nursing equipment including 34 replacement beds, a new ultrasound machine and upgrades to the CT scanner.

“This funding provided by the Provincial Government represents a significant health care investment for the Grand Falls-Windsor and Buchans area. These additions and upgrades will help health professionals deliver enhanced care for patients at the hospital and Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor, as well as the A.M. Guy Memorial Health Centre in Buchans. It also represents a continued commitment to health care needs in this region.”
- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor - Buchans

An investment of $464,000 in the A. M. Guy Memorial Health Centre in Buchans will be used to upgrade the facility’s air exchange and domestic water systems. Five replacement beds will also be purchased.

The residents of Carmelite House will benefit from an investment of $165,000 that will purchase 27 replacement beds and six geriatric chairs that will both help improve patient safety and comfort.

“These investments to support infrastructure within Central Health will assist our staff in providing safe, quality care to the population we serve. The new equipment and upgrades made available through this latest funding will certainly assist in the delivery of essential care services.”
- Rosemarie Goodyear, President and Chief Executive Officer, Central Health

These investments in the Grand Falls-Windsor region build on the multi-year redevelopment projects valued at approximately $18 million for the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre announced in 2014. These projects include development of a new endoscopy suite, expansion of the dialysis unit from 11 to 15 dialysis stations, and planning for the redevelopment of the laboratories.

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has invested nearly $1.5 billion in health care infrastructure. Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook includes a total investment of over $189 million in infrastructure, which allocates $119 million for continuing construction and redevelopment, $50.5 million for new equipment and $20 million for repairs and renovations.
